Session Highlights (submitted by Milt Hurston, Clerk of Session):
WOW-tastic Wednesday - Reports from our VBS:
“I honestly considered it a privilege to be a part of VBS in the Park with Marble City Baptist. It wasn't complicated and everyone could choose what they thought they could handle. Sweet, willing leadership from both churches and friendly faces to meet for the first time.....not to mention, the precious children! A landmark decision to do it and I'm humbled that our church was in true fellowship with other Christians to serve the Lord in outreach together.”
From another participant: “When we arrived at the park, there would be groups from both churches meeting one another and then we'd each move to our area of service. Some did face painting and others did story-telling, singing, serving food, greeting, or crafts. I was involved in prayer walking. Walking and praying, I would meet up with someone from Marble City and we'd chat to get to know one another and pray for each other and VBS. I'd meet strangers and talk with them, listen to their stories and continue to pray. All the while, I could see the activity of the children and adults engaged with VBS. It was encouraging to watch children hear about Jesus Christ, maybe for the first time. It was a wonderful time and experience.”

News from Knollwood Christian School, Dr. Larry Jones:
All of you may have noticed the Prayer Garden being built. I am sure the school will enjoy this beautiful location of prayer. We hope the church will enjoy it also. Thanks to Dick Wright for his efforts in putting this together.
We are getting everything in place to begin our second year at our new location. As always, we continue to get new students enrolled over the summer and right up to the day school starts. In fact, for the past several years, we have picked up new students even after the school year has begun.
If you know of anyone interested in their child (or grandchildren) receiving a Christ-centered education, please have them contact us at 256-249-4750. They can also get more information at our website or search for us on Facebook and click "like"!
2011 Life Change: We are collecting money to help furnish the new kitchen at Camp Marannook. Bring coins, bills and checks to fill the jar!
“Jesus Meets Our Opposing Hearts and Gives Rest for the Weary”: In Matthew 11-13, we see that in Jesus the Kingdom of God comes – not in works of power and success – but in mysterious grace amid weakness and the opposition of sinful hearts. Why? Because this is the only way for our Savior to give rest and redemption to sinners like you and me! This month, Jesus encounters the ways we oppose Jesus even in our best attempts of religion. The question we are lovingly confronted with is, Will we run or will we rest?
Fellowship Dinner: Our next Fellowship Dinner will be held on Sunday, August 21 at 6 pm - stay tuned for more details.
